FAQ’s

  • SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures the efficiency of an air conditioning system. A higher SEER rating means better energy efficiency. As of 2023, the minimum SEER rating for new systems is 14 in northern states and 15 in southern states.

  • The best HVAC system depends on your home size, insulation, climate, and budget. Common options include:

    • Central AC & Furnace – Ideal for larger homes with ductwork.

    • Heat Pumps – Efficient for moderate climates and provide heating & cooling.

    • Ductless Mini-Splits – Great for homes without ducts or for zoning.

    • Geothermal Systems – Highly efficient but expensive upfront.

    • Change your air filters regularly (every 1–3 months).

    • Use high-efficiency HEPA filters.

    • Install an air purifier or UV light system.

    • Keep humidity between 30-50% with a dehumidifier or humidifier.

    • Clean air ducts and vents periodically.

    • Regularly vacuum with a HEPA-filtered vacuum.

  • The industry is shifting from R-410A refrigerant to R-454B and R-32, which have a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP). This transition helps reduce environmental impact and aligns with EPA regulations. R-410A will be phased out starting in 2025, so newer systems will use eco-friendly refrigerants. If your current system is using R-22, there are alternative refrigerants still available.

  • Carbon monoxide (CO) can build up due to:

    • A cracked or malfunctioning furnace heat exchanger.

    • Blocked or leaking vents and chimneys.

    • Poorly maintained gas appliances.

    • Running a car in an attached garage.

    • Using unvented space heaters or generators indoors.

    • Leave immediately and do not turn on lights or use electrical devices.

    • Do not use your phone inside the house.

    • Call 911 or your gas company from a safe distance.

    • Do not return until professionals declare it safe.

    • Furnace: 15-20 years

    • Central AC: 10-15 years

    • Heat Pump: 10-15 years

    • Ductless Mini-Split: 15-20 years

    • Boiler: 15-30 years
Lifespan depends on maintenance and usage.

    • Upgrade to a high-efficiency HVAC system.

    • Use a programmable thermostat.

    • Seal air leaks and improve insulation.

    • Change filters regularly.

    • Schedule routine HVAC maintenance.

    • Use ceiling fans to improve airflow.

    • Keep vents unblocked for better circulation.

    • Check and clean air vents.

    • Ensure dampers are open and balanced.

    • Consider installing a zoning system.

    • Insulate ductwork to prevent heat loss.

    • Use a ductless mini-split for problem areas.

    • Standard 1-inch filters: Every 1-3 months.

    • HEPA or high-efficiency filters: Every 6-12 months.

    • Homes with pets/allergies: Every 1-2 months.

    • Heavy HVAC usage (summer/winter): Monthly.
